What to Expect Throughout the Day

The demonstration begins at Mission Avenue and Canyon Drive. Participants are welcome to arrive throughout the afternoon and gather along the four corners while remaining on the sidewalks.

At 6:00 PM, we will march together to the Oceanside Civic Center, led by Calpulli Omeyocan (Danza), accompanied by Banda and Diablos. Once we arrive, the evening will continue with acommunity program featuring impacted community members, local organizations, community demands, and opportunities for collective action.

The program is expected to conclude around 8:00 PM.

March Route: â€‹The community march is approximately 1.2 miles and takes about 30 minutes to complete. The route begins at Mission Avenue & Canyon Drive and continues to the Oceanside Civic Center (library area).

Route Note: Due to ongoing construction, participants will use the south sidewalk along Mission Avenue while traveling toward the Oceanside Civic Center.

Participating in the Protest

We encourage everyone to remain on the sidewalks throughout the demonstration and to follow all traffic laws and traffic signals. Volunteers wearing safety vests will be available throughout the event, and we encourage participants to follow their guidance to help keep everyone safe.

Whenever possible, we encourage everyone to remain together during the community march. Together, we can help create a welcoming environment for everyone.

If you arrive after the march has begun, you may meet the group at the Oceanside Civic Center or join the march along the route if it can be done safely.

Photographs and videos may be taken throughout the event for community documentation and media purposes. If you have questions or concerns, please speak with a volunteer wearing a safety vest.

Families, youth, elders, and community members of all backgrounds are welcome.

We encourage everyone to stay focused on why we're gathering. Our purpose is to stand with our communities rather than engage with counterprotesters or agitators.

Participating by Vehicle

If you are unable to participate on foot, joining by vehicle is another way to show support.

We encourage everyone driving to:

  • Follow all traffic laws and signals.

  • Yield to pedestrians and emergency vehicles.

  • Avoid blocking intersections or driveways.

  • Display signs or flags in ways that do not obstruct visibility.

  • Follow guidance from volunteers or public safety officials related to traffic flow.

We encourage participants to bring:

  • Water

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing

  • Sunscreen, a hat, or other sun protection if desired

  • Signs, banners, or other creative ways to share your message

  • Face covering

  • Portable phone charger

  • Any medications you may need

Community Care

Available throughout the event:

  • Water and basic supplies

  • Spanish interpretation will be available during the community program

  • A community care station with basic first aid supplies and Know Your Rights materials

  • A space to pause, rest, and reconnect if you need a moment during the event

This demonstration may bring up strong emotions. We recognize that Black, Indigenous, and other communities directly impacted by policing, detention, deportation, and family separation may be carrying additional weight throughout the day. We encourage everyone to ground themselves in ways that feel supportive, while centering and following the leadership of those most directly impacted. If you need a moment, step away, get water, reconnect with your body, mind, spirit, or heart, and rejoin when you feel ready.

We also invite everyone to remember that the land holding this gathering is alive and holds each of us, along with everything each of us may be carrying that day. If it feels meaningful to you, consider taking a moment to connect with the land in your own way, whether through a prayer, chant, song, dance, silence, tears, gratitude, a smile, or simply being present. As part of caring for the land that is holding us, we invite everyone to leave the space with care by picking up after themselves and honoring the places where we gather.

Know Your Rights

If you interact with law enforcement during the demonstration, remain calm and avoid escalating the situation.

You have the right to remain silent and to ask whether you are free to leave.

If you choose to document the event, please be mindful of the privacy and safety of those around you.
